At A Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, you have the “best of all worlds” when searching for “providers near me in Jupiter, Florida.” You have a Board-certified dermatologist, Mohs surgeon, and osteopath in Dr. Peter Vitulli. You have peace of mind that the health and appearance of your skin is in highly-skilled and experienced hands. Additionally, we at the center provide more than one option for every medical, cosmetic, and laser dermatology treatment category. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments falls under the “injectable” category. They include Botox® and dermal fillers, which work in completely different ways.

Botox®

Botox® is a type of neuromodulator. This product inhibits the neural messages that tell your muscles to contract. This cumulative contraction of the muscles over time leads to the development of static (permanent) expression lines, such as frown lines and crow’s feet on the forehead, between and around the eyes. It is injected as a gel precisely into the site responsible for the development of these lines. When precisely administered, you never have a “frozen face.” You are still able to express yourself, only the lines in the injection area are softened. We at A Center for Dermatology also offer Dysport®, a similar compound to Botox® that is used to soften moderate to severe furrows such as frown lines between the eyes.

Dermal Fillers

Also known as soft-tissue fillers, dermal fillers augment or “fill in” sunken or undersized areas of the face. They do not block nerve signals as neuromodulators do. There are numerous fillers on the market today. They vary in terms of how they are formulated, their applications, and other factors such as how long the effects from these fillers last.

Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvéderm® are all formulated with a biocompatible material that your body produces naturally, Hyaluronic Acid. HA is a natural moisturizer and lubricant. So, the risks of allergies and other sensitivities associated with the product are minimized. Once injected into the sunken or wrinkled areas of the face, these fillers may smooth folds around the mouth, nose, and cheeks or add volume to areas such as the lips. Some fillers, such as Juvéderm®, are a family of products, each formulated slightly differently.

Radiesse® and Sculptra® are generally considered to be longer-lasting fillers. They are formulated with ingredients other than the popular HA – calcium hydroxyapatite and poly-L-lactic acid, respectively. The former may be appropriate for replenishing facial volume, some scars, and filling in deep folds and wrinkles. The latter is indicated for volume loss in the cheeks, temples, chin, and around the eyes and mouth. Both of these types of fillers also help stimulate the production of firming collagen; your body makes less collagen naturally over time.

Generally, the results from these injectable products may last for anywhere from around four months to two years or longer, depending on the product and formulation. All of these products produce temporary results and will require some ongoing “touch-ups”; however, they are great low-risk alternatives to invasive surgical procedures.
