About PicoSure®

PicoSure® by aesthetic laser leader Cynosure® is designed with features such as ultra-short pulses and Patented PressureWave™ technology to disrupt or break up the pigment beneath the skin among patients with unwanted tattoos. Additionally, the PicoSure® treatment is highly customizable. Depending on the setting used, Dr. Vitulli may direct PicoSure® to target areas of the skin that are marred by a variety of cosmetic concerns. For tattoo removal, the pigments in the inks are safely shattered. Your body can then safely absorb them, and the inks fade away. For revitalization and the removal of pigmented lesions, the laser triggers cell turnover. As we age, the process of dead skin cells being sloughed off and making way for fresh, new cells slows down. We can stimulate this beneficial process by using the PicoSure® laser.

This laser may be coupled with prescription-strength topicals and oral medications (pills) to manage outbreaks of acne. In this manner, you also avoid the lingering effects of past outbreaks (scars). We can also soften some scars via laser therapy, including those caused by previous bouts with acne.

Good things to know

After cleansing the skin, the device is moved over the surface of the tattoo, lesion, or other condition. While treatment is quite gentle, we can discuss anesthetic options as needed. The laser energy goes to work on the treatment site. The amount of time required for each treatment session depends on the condition that is treated and certain aspects of the tattoo (such as the color of the ink and the tattoo’s age). An ointment or dressing may be applied to seal in moisture following treatment. There may be some passing tenderness, redness, or itching afterward. Since it takes more energy to remove tattoos than to remove lesions or other signs of aging, we wait around six to eight weeks between tattoo removal treatments (versus two to six weeks for skin revitalization treatments).

Results from tattoo and scar removal are permanent, whereas maintenance sessions may be needed when treating the other conditions listed here. We don’t want the pigment to cluster into age spots. Likewise, PicoSure® can be a powerful preventative for future wrinkles and lines,
