Care for your skin and overall health starts with cancer screenings and prevention in Jupiter, Florida

Consult dermatologist Dr. Peter Vitulli of A Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery in Jupiter FL for skin cancer screening and care services
Nothing inspires fear quite like a cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, many types of cancer are relatively easy to treat successfully and non-traumatically when detected and addressed early. Board-certified in dermatology and certified in precision Mohs skin cancer treatment , Dr. Peter Vitulli of A Center for Dermatology , Cosmetic & Laser Surgery also appreciates that the cancers he sees and regularly treats in Jupiter Florida are highly preventable with proactive care.

Screenings

Regardless of skin type, all patients should visit us at least once a year for a professional skin check or evaluation. During these evaluations, we will examine your skin for any irregularities that could indicate the presence of pre-cancers or cancers such as basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas and melanoma. We also encourage you to regularly check your skin for any changes; for instance, a mole growing larger, darker, or suddenly itches, crusts, and refuses to heal. We are more than happy to provide suggestions for how to check your skin effectively. Please do not wait to contact us should you notice anything that bothers you.

Additionally, these ongoing visits present opportunities for us to compare changes from one check to the next. We may also recommend more frequent screenings at our office if you are at heightened risk of developing skin cancer. These risk factors include:
  • Fair skin
  • Naturally blonde or red hair and light eyes
  • Previous use of tanning beds
  • Previous history of sunburns
  • Family history of skin cancer
  • A previous skin cancer diagnosis
  • Have more than 10 asymmetrical, multi-colored, or big “atypical” moles
If Dr. Vitulli finds something suspicious, he will take a small sample of the area for biopsy and further evaluation. Know that you are in exceptional hands at our office. Our specialist is among the select few dermatologists to double as a Mohs surgeon.

This precision technique is considered the “gold standard” in treating recurring cancers or large cancers or those cancerous growths in highly visible areas (such as the face). Other treatments may include standard “excision” or surgical removal with specialized tools, and reconstructive procedures may be necessary to restore the appearance of the skin in some cases. It should be noted that Mohs Micrographic Surgery helps to minimize the amount of skin that is removed during treatment, which further minimizes the risks of scarring and the need for extensive reconstructive procedures.

But why treat when you can prevent it?

No healthy skincare regimen would be complete without protecting exposed areas from harmful Ultraviolet light from the sun and tanning beds. There is no such thing as a “healthy” tan. In fact, avoidance and proper protection techniques are a cornerstone for healthy skin and overall health. Our team provides recommendations on sunscreen products that you can trust. It’s also important to use and reapply the product as directed by us. And, importantly, do not wait until you notice alarming changes to contact us. Get into a healthy habit of regular skin checks today. Contact us to schedule.
